Watching my niece, Sydney Reece Bjornberg, go through her battle with brain cancer changed my life forever. As her uncle, I stood beside my sister Michelle, my parents, and our whole family as we watched this bright, beautiful girl fight with courage most adults could never imagine. And in the end, we were left with heartbreak that no family should ever have to carry.
When you lose someone you love—especially a child—you can’t stand on the sidelines anymore. You want to do something that matters. That’s why I decided to partner my company, Level King Pro, with The Cure Starts Now, the foundation Michelle leads here in North Texas. For every concrete repair we complete, we donate a portion of every transaction to fund research in Sydney’s honor.
Why This Cause Needs You
- Less than 3% of federal cancer research funding goes to childhood cancers. That means kids like Sydney are left with outdated treatments and little hope for something better.
- Brain cancers like DIPG and DMG (the type Sydney had) are some of the most aggressive—and yet, some of the least funded.
- Most families are told there’s nothing that can be done—but research says otherwise. Our mission is to pursue the “homerun cure” by starting with one of the most deadly and difficult cancers: pediatric brain cancer. By funding breakthroughs against these aggressive tumors, researchers believe we can uncover lessons that may unlock critical steps in defeating all forms of cancer—both pediatric and adult.
